Rachel and her ex husband had tense relations at best. When he died, she was surprised to encounter his presence several times, especially because their personalities had clashed so severely when he was alive. At first, the idea of life after death interaction with him confused her. Had they been in love, or at least sympathetic companions or cordial ex companions, she could better understand the idea of feeling his presence or hearing his words. But they weren't close.
